How much does the Under Deck Oasis product cost?

There are many, many factors that determine the cost of the Under Deck Ceiling. Prices are different depending on the way you purchase, the finish, deck size, location, cantilever areas, height, working over hot tubs, attaching to brick vs wood, ceiling fans and other accessories, irregular shaped decks, location, and more.

Can Under Deck Oasis match my current gutters and siding?

Absolutely. The panels come in 12 colors in two finishes (painted and wood grain), as well as a rustic texture finish option. We have not found a house yet that we couldn’t match a great combination of colors to.

When it rains, where does the water go?

Imagine the Under Deck system as a giant trough that collects the rain water. The panels are slightly slanted to one side to allow the water to move freely into a gutter system that then redistributes the water away from the deck and house. Water can be diverted to either new downspouts, or connected in with existing downspouts.

Can Under Deck Oasis add accessories like ceiling fans and lights?

No problem. Ceiling fans and lights are common but we can also install the hardware for swings, hammocks, heaters and even latches for holding ladders.

How will the under deck stand up to winds?

Unless the winds reach hurricane force, the Under Deck Oasis will not be adversely affected by wind. The reason for this is the panels are securely locked into the carrier system. Our unique carrier design captures the panel on both the top and the bottom. So, wind force from above (through the deck surface) will push the panel deeper into the teeth of the carrier. Wind from below or side will push the carrier against the carrier body. The space that the carrier locks into is precisely controlled through the manufacturing process to allow the panels to fit in the teeth with little excess room for movement.

How does your system do in snow and ice?

Our system is made from sturdy aluminum and has an extremely tough carrier system. It was designed in Michigan for Michigan winters.

Can you use aluminum to wrap the outer deck beams and main support beams?

We do not wrap beams with aluminum due to a common problem known as “Oil Canning.” Oil Canning is a moderate deformation or buckling of sheet material. This is typically caused by uneven stresses at the fastening points. We are currently looking at other solutions for this common request.

“Oil Canning” in aluminum.Do you wrap support posts?

At this point we do not wrap support posts. Wood often twists as it dries, particularly if it’s a lower grade or if the sun hits one side more than the others. Posts are particularly prone to this problem because one end is always free to do what it wants. Pressure-treated posts are even more likely to behave this way because they’re saturated with water and chemicals during the treatment process and often haven’t dried out enough before they’re put in the ground.

Twisting and warping wood make it difficult to wrap support posts.

Twisted and warped posts make doing an effective wrap job difficult, though many of our homeowners choose to do this themselves after the Under Deck Oasis system is completed, which is what you see in many of the pictures on this site. We are open to hear about solutions for wrapping support posts.

What do you do about bolts that stick out of our support beams?

It is very simple: We take the bolt and reverse it so it sticks out the other side, or we lose the bolt altogether and sink in screws to hold the board in place. For very large structural bolts material will be added to the side of beam to in order to flush out the surface for the panel system installation.

Does the aluminum system react with treated lumber?

Decks built before approximately 2004 were constructed with a treated lumber called CCA. By now these decks have already leached the environmental concerning elements chromium and Arsenic … The building industry voluntarily pulled CCA from the market in compliance with requests made by the EPA. Older decks built with CCA treated lumber are no concern.

The replacement for CCA treated lumber was ACQ. The copper in ACQ treated wood accelerates corrosion of galvanized steel fasteners and reacts poorly when in contact with Aluminum. It is mandatory to use either stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized copper fasteners when connecting to ACQ lumber. Under deck panels are suspended by carriers held in place by stainless steel fasteners and never come in contact with any lumber of any kind. ACQ is water soluble based treatment and over a few years a substantial amount of chemicals will be leached out. All aluminum under deck system pieces are powdered coated and joints are caulked – so essentially the aluminum never comes in contact in with treated lumber.

How do I clean the debri that falls into the under deck?

Any item small enough to fall through cracks in your decking are two small to build up and plug the panel system. Small debri will simply be washing out with the rain. The under deck system isn’t like gutters on your house, there are no large leaves and pine cones, etc., to clog up the panels. If there was need to get into the panels it is possible to do.. but you should never have to do this.

What if I drop something valuable through the deck above?

Simple, there is a tool, costs about $8 – you can slide a panel and drop it, reach in and find your valuable. Also, you can gain access same method if you need to string wires for lights or something.

How long will the Under Deck Panel system last?

Great question… the panels never see sunlight so they won’t fade, they won’t rust, they wont corrode, they won’t do anything except last a long time.

WIll there be problems with that green gross algae anymore?

Nope… the panel system cuts out all the reflected ambient sunlight from below, except for what little shines in from above… the interior space is dark and the Algae will not survive, or thrive anymore.

Can I use recessed light fixtures?

Recessed light fixtures are possible… but terribly difficult and expensive to install – and there are limitations on size and location. . Best to consider flush mount low profile LED lights or something similar.

What if I can’t get an electrician to pre-wire my under deck in time?

OK… Northwest Under Decks can pre-wire the romex wiring and prepare for light fixtures and leave a bundle of wire outside of the panel system for your electrician to hook into at a later date.. Northwest Under Decks would need to know a basic plan so the wires can be routed in the right direction. There are usually things we can do to get your wiring in advance of the Electrician if needed.
